When the WiiMote was first shown off at E3 2006 the initial first thought everyone had was “Woah, this thing will RULE for Golf games!”. Well, we are getting close to two years in and there hasn’t been one game yet that made me feel like I was driving a ball down the fairway.
WiiSports Golf was fun and controlled well, but wasn’t deep enough to be more then a party game. Tiger Woods came along and tried to make the game more “Sim-y”, but ended up taking a dunk in the water hazard with controls that were trying to be too advanced without really being that easy to control. Super Swing Golf tried and put out a decent effort. Included were a few different control methods including an old school button mashing one, unfortunately for me that was the only one I could use as the swing mechanics didn’t work for me as they were supposed to.
It’s with these past failures fresh in my mind that I am looking towards We Love Golf from Capcom. We love Golf is a bit cartoony in presentation, much like Super Swing. If what I’m hearing from Japan is true, this game may have the most accurate swing mechanic of any of the Wii golf games thus far. Even better we are getting an online mode in the North American version meaning that I can play a round or two with my buds should our real game get rained out.
I don’t think that this game is trying to be a serious golf title by any stretch of the imagination, but the tight controls bundled with online play should make me forget about all of that. Add in some cameos from other Capcom characters such as Chun Li, Ryu and Zack from Zak and Wiki and you have a golf game that even the non golfers in my house will play when this game hits on July 15th.
Take a peek at the screenshot gallery after the jump to see how this game will look. Me, I’m looking forward to working on my handicap while chilling in the comfort of my home… even when it’s raining.

Man, I wish I still had the Wii. Golfing as Ryu would be the jam. Dante would be a good addition too ;D

Apparently Ken and Morrigan will be making an appearance as well. It’s kind of cool that the extra characters are just costumes that you unlock. So you can build your guy or gal’s stats up, but play as Ken if you wanted without losing that stat build. Very cool.

Ryu and Chun Li look really messed up.

Yeah they do look a little odd. They are actually the ingame characters wearing Ryu and Chun Li costumes. I’m thinking that it will still be cool to play as them.

Agreed. I love Capcom’s inclusion of characters/costumes in their series’.

Oh, I thought they were in the game, not costumes. Props for the fan play then.
