As anyone on my friends list knows, I have been spending most of my free time lately playing the Gears 2 multiplayer, and I’m back to drop some knowledge on the masses. Continue past the break to find three new strategies that will up your kill-count and impress the ladies (no guarantee on the latter).
Sowing the Seeds of Destruction
By now, it’s common knowledge that players can turn frag grenades into proximity mines by planting them on any surface. You have probably also figured out that sticking them on the inside of a door frame is a great way to get kills and keep people out at the same time. However, savvy players are ready for this tactic and will easily bypass your would-be death traps. The best strategy to use when planting grenades is to not stick them on the door frame (or whatever object you want to hide them behind), but rather in the ground. This takes the grenade out of eye level and makes it much harder to spot, especially since there will be no dangling chain, in addition to the fact that body parts and other debris can obscure the mine when it is on the floor.
It’s a Trap!
Ink grenades are a fantastic tool for keeping people out of the hill in objective game types, but aren’t as immediately useful in straight-up deathmatch games. Try creating an ink mine in the same place you or a teammate plants a smoke grenade. The enemy won’t be able to get up in time to escape the poison.
Getting Your Foot in the Door
The torque bow can be a bonafide killing machine. Unfortunately, it is tough to defend yourself if someone sneaks in close to you, which is bound to happen as you snipe with this weapon. If you find yourself suddenly under duress, melee your assailant and immediately fire a shot into the ground, then dive away. This will be enough to kill them while they stand helplessly stunned.
Another useful tip to remember is that you don’t need to hit someone with the arrow to take them down in one shot. If someone is hiding around a corner, shoot the floor as close to them as possible. From most angles this is deadly.
