If you’re in to dino-stabbin’ and gun blastin’ in another Unreal 3 Engine based shooter, Turok could be up your alley. If you’re waiting on reviews, know that Official Xbox Magazine’s exclusive review banked it a 7.0/10 - we’re not saying 7 is bad at all, no! We just think that it’s a little odd that an exclusive review would score so… regularly. Check out the demo on Marketplace, come back here for impressions, and read on for Major Nelson’s details.

Dash Text: [ESRB: M (Mature) BLOOD,INTENSE VIOLENCE,LANGUAGE] Turok is an epic, story-driven first-person shooter set on a dark, mysterious planet in the future. Players take on the role of Joseph Turok, a former black ops commando, now part of an elite special forces squad, known as Whiskey Company, which is on a mission to take down a war criminal – Turok’s former mentor, Roland Kane.
While Whiskey Company is traveling to the genetically altered planet inhabited by Kane and his soldiers, Whiskey Company’s ship is shot down. Turok must use his elite military training to elude Kane’s well-trained army, known as Mendel-Gruman, and the ravenous, unpredictable dinosaurs, huge insects and other massive creatures that populate the dangerous environment. Turok’s mission? Survive at all costs.

Exclusive reviews do usually get an Editors Choice award come to think about it. Hmmm.

I think it makes OXM look all the more legit. Also, it makes Propaganda look great as well, since they were obviously satisfied with the score. Even if they weren’t, they didn’t take away the exclusivity. Good on them. It’s unusual, especially in this time period with the firings, quitting, and all around talk about exclusives going on.

100% agreed. EGM does not do exclusive reviews to avoid facing the pressures of publishers to exchange exclusivity for a high score.

GFW is the same way. They gave Call of Duty a great score, but it came way late.

The Turok Demo wasn’t so bad. It’s not the best feeling game and it could really use better save points. The story, gameplay and overall atmosphere i gathered from playing the demo has me a little interested. I’m going to give this game a chance and rent it.
