E309: 360 owners to finally get taste of Metal Gear Solid

During the its E3 conference, Microsoft brought out someone few were expecting. About mid way through the press conference, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima was introduced and said simply, ”It’s great to be finally standing here on the Xbox 360 stage. I’m bringing the Metal Gear Solid franchise to Xbox 360.”

As a game developer, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima is known for doing unexpected things (like only letting you play as the first game’s protagonist for the first level of its blockbuster sequel) and today was no exception.

“I can confirm that next major release will be called Metal Gear Solid Rising and that development is currently underway for Xbox 360,” said Kojima. “We can’t wait to see what the next game holds for Solid Snake. But I didn’t say anything about Solid Snake.”

“I can’t say more now,” Kojima said, “but I can promise you that it will be a completely new experience.”

Details are a bit scarce at the moment but it appears players will once again take the role of Raiden, though what the plot will revolve around and who he’ll be fighting are still a mystery.

No mention of exclusivity (timed or otherwise) was mentioned. UPDATE: The game will be coming to PS3, 360 and PC.

Konami has released some initial news and statements, “The Metal Gear Solid series is one of the most highly acclaimed video game franchises of all time,” said Anthony Crouts, Vice President of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. “With Metal Gear Solid: Rising, the Xbox 360 community will finally get a chance to enjoy the action and excitement that this popular franchise is known to offer.”
