Blizzard Blesses Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty with July 27, 2010 Release Date

Blizzard has today announced their planned release date for the first third of Starcraft II. The release is currently slated as July 27 this year. Gamers will be able to either purchase copies in-store that day or directly from Blizzard at a later, unspecified date.

The date is good for “stores throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Mexico, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.”

Blizzard will not be offering the game directly to consumers through its website until “shortly after retail launch.” When that is is another question entirely. Remember, this is Blizzard we’re talking about so use pencil on your calendars, not pen.

Wings of Liberty is based around the human terran story arc, part two (B?) will be Heart of the Swarm, where you’ll play the Zerg and part three (C?) will finally let the story [maybe] conclude with the Protoss-centered Legacy of the Void. The other two thirds have no beta or release dates or other details whatsoever at this point.
