Club Nintendo Coming to North America

Posted on Fri, Oct 3, 2008 in News, Nintendo Wii

Club Nintendo has been around for a while in Japan, Australia, South Africa and Europe, with varying amounts of success.  The whole idea behind the customer loyalty program is to rack up points by both registering Nintendo games and equipment and by completing surveys on their website. You can then use your points to purchase free items from their online store. The big news here is that Club Nintendo is finally making it’s way to the North American market!

I say that Club Nintendo has had varying success rates because of the type of goodies that have been available in both regions previously. They advertise premium giveaways, such as exclusive DS game content, but a lot of gamers have been disappointed in the quality (t-shirts) and lack of quantity of items.

One of the bigger questions to come up is whether previously registered items on the Nintendo website will count towards your points, or if it all begins fresh when Club Nintendo launches in North America. This is what Cammie Dunaway had to say to that particular question:

… You will be able to bring over some of the points, but we’re still figuring out how it’s going to work. It’s not necessarily going to be all of them.

Well, that’s not much of an answer. Hopefully we’ll get better clarification when Club Nintendo comes closer to launching in North America later this year.
