The upcoming DJ Hero will will draw in people who have yet to become acquainted with the franchise, said Activision Senior Brand Manager Ian McClellan.

“With the kind of diversity DJ Hero offers, we expect it to appeal to people who may not have yet discovered the Hero franchise,” McClella told MCV. “The key is that the music – which comprises of over 90 mashups that are unique to DJ Hero – is still very accessible.”

Of course, they’re only accessible through a large and very weird turntable peripheral. The game’s sales performance later this month should be a good indicator of how fans respond to the concept. Anyone who’s played DJ Hero at their local Best Buy (displays are up now) is probably a little confused by the comments.

The turntable, whilst original and funky-fresh, is confusing if you’re unfamiliar with the concept of scratching or mixing in the first place – probably a large portion of Guitar Hero fans. Whether the game attracts those who enjoy mash-ups and scratching and can’t get a real turntable for whatever reason remains to be seen.
