E309: Flip Note Studio

Flipnote Studio

Based on what was shown during Nintendo’s E3 Press Conference, it would seem that they are finally taking DSiWare seriously. Well, seriously enough that there is more coming out for the service than themed clocks and calendars.

Both of the highly anticipated titles Flip Note Studio (which came out as Moving Memo in Japan) and Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! were shown. The interesting thing is that both of these titles include user generated content as a main feature, something that Nintendo seems to be embracing more and more recently most likely due to the success of games like Little Big Planet on the PS3.

You can read up on Mario vs. Donkey Kong™: Minis March Again! on it’s own post, but Flip Note Studio is an interesting title. Flip Note Studio allows you to generate simple or complex animations and share them with your friends by uploading them to a central server. Think of Mario Paint meets Youtube and you’ll have a good idea what I mean. This title was a FREE download when it came out in Japan, lets hope for the same deal when it hits the North American DSiWare service.

I’ve uploaded some screenshots below the jump, but this game really has to be seen to appreciate. More info, and hopefully a video will be posted as soon as we get it! Until then a quick search on Youtube for “Moving Memo” is sure to pull up some gems.
