E309: Microsoft E3 Conference 2009 Round-up

Posted on Tue, Jun 2, 2009 in Featured, News, PC, Xbox 360

With very few games announced for this holiday season, Microsoft went into E3 2009 with everything to prove, and they delivered.

While a large portion of their conference was dedicated to the worst kept secret in gaming, Project Natal, the main focus throughout was the games, and with announcement after announcement this was the best course of action.

With Halo: ODST being priced at the same level of other Xbox 360 titles, something more had to be included in the pack. This was a beta key for the announced Halo: Reach, a weird way to announce the next title as an incentive to pay more for the upcoming one. But the other announcements, ranging from Left 4 Dead 2 to the first Metal Gear game for the platform Metal Gear Rising made up for this.

As a conference, Microsoft may well have presented the other two platform holders with a huge challenge. By showcasing the games on offer, such as The Beatles: Rock Band, and Modern Warfare 2, the focus was always kept on the games. The Metal Gear and Project Natal announcements were the biggest ones, and have helped secure Microsoft in the race to being the best Conference of the show.
