Following a discussion of the success Sony have had with the innovative LittleBigPlanet, the company announced a new IP called Modnation Racers.
With everything in the game completely customisable, from racers to tracks to vehicles, the game looked to be a Kart Racer equivilant of Sackboy’s game. Through a breif demo of the track creation tool in the game, it could be seen that everything about each track can be customised, the weather, time of day, terrain to the animals that roam the nearby grassy verge.
The game was somewhat scarily reminiscent of LittleBigPlanet, so much so that it’s surprising that this is being marketed as a completely new IP. The LittleBig name could have been used on this game, along with sackboy, as while the cutesy designed characters can be fully costomised, the design of Sackboy could have made him into an even greater icon for PS3.
Modnation Racers was targeted for 2010, and could well take the so called ‘Play Create Share’ genre to the next level. Check out more screens from the game below.
