E309: Xbox 360 Motion Controller Made Official

Posted on Tue, Jun 2, 2009 in News, Xbox 360

After over a year of rumours, Microsoft have finally announced their motion controller. Project Natal may look like little more than a Wii Sensor bar, but the lack of any other device separates the two control methods.

Natal can detect motion and depth, and recognise voice, faces and body shapes immerse the player in the game. The examples shown at the demo ranged from the device recognising a skateboard which then made the object appear in game, to browsing the NXE using motions.

The final section of the demo was fronted by Fable creator Peter Molyneux, where an on screen boy Milo was able to interact with a woman standing in front of the screen. This element of the device was the most original and could spell for a much more involved gaming experience.

Check out the demo of Natal below, and look for a heavy emphasis on the device from Microsoft in the future.
