This truly is sad news for all the PSP gamers out there who have been looking for ways to extend their playtime through other battery methods. The Extended Life Battery Kit for the PSP was only released late last year and it’s quite puzzling to have Sony pull them off of the shelves so soon.
The kit nearly doubled the battery life of the PSP-2000’s on the market, giving an additional 12 hours of gameplay. The only drawback of the kit being the slight bulge at the back of the system due to the larger battery cover that was needed.
This is all that SCEA’s Al de Leon had to say on the matter:
Yes, we are discontinuing this product as we look for other opportunities to service the consumer.
Well that doesn’t really give a lot of useful information! It really is too bad that we’re seeing the end to this particular PSP peripheral, hopefully Sony has something bigger and better in the works?
