Flower Hits PSN on February 12th

Thatgamecompany is set to unleash its serene, beautiful, utterly hypnotizing downloadable game on an unsuspecting chainsaws-and-zombies-obsessed public early next month, according to a posting from company president Kellee Santiago on the official Playstation blog.

The Playstation Network has been host to a handful of unusually creative games, including thatgamecompany’s extremely successful title, flOw.  And it appears that the developer’s new offering doesnt’ stray far from flOw’s weird and wonderful formula.

Described by Santiago as “an exploration into the tension between urban bustle and natural serenity,” Flower defies easy classification. Each level of the game takes place inside the dream of a flower, with players given control of the wind. The objective is to collect all of the flowar petals as you soar through the air and between blades of grass.  See what we mean about defying easy classication?

At any rate, Flower is gorgeous, different, and one of our most anticipated games of the first quarter.  Fans of flOw, Braid, and PixelJunk Eden just might have found their new favorite game. It lands on the PS3 on February 12th.

Taking control of wind? Sounds similar to LostWinds to me, so it might appeal to fans of that game too.

Maybe taking control isn’t the best way to put it…more like you ARE the wind.

But from what I’ve heard of LostWinds (I haven’t really delved into WiiWare), yeah, it sounds like fans would dig this. Good call.
