Like previous Metal Gear games, Metal Gear Solid: Rising will allow players to complete the game without having to kill a single enemy. Whether this achievement is done or not is entirely up to the player. For a game where the protagonist has a katana, it seems this accomplishment will be rather difficult.
Developer Konami revealed the possibility at Gamescom yesterday. Those Metal Gear games in which it was possible had tranquilizer guns. Rising will supposedly only feature a sword and other sharp objects with which to stab and slice enemies. Stun baton maybe?
IGN’s Daemon Hatfield got a play-through and gave us some basic details. ”When you encounter human resistance you can slice their weapons in half, causing them to run away in fear,” Hatfield explained. “If you accidentally slice off a hand or two, well, that will be forgiven.” Slice and dice away, just be careful where you aim. The game is also full of mechanical enemies (like Metal Gears) and fruit, which can all be sliced and skewered without damaging your no-kill progress.
What specific reward or Achievement/trophy will be awarded to pacifist players has yet to be revealed.
