Rock Band and Guitar Hero aficionados can breathe a sigh of relief at some of the news coming from Leipzig as the coming glut of rhythm games will only require them to have/buy one set of instruments rather than a set per-game.
Activision has announced something gamers have been waiting for since Harmonix and Red Octane parted ways before Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and Rock Band.
Activision says that If you play Guitar Hero World Tour on PS2, PS3 or 360, your instrument is going to work. No matter what its game of origin, be it Rock Band, Rock Band 2 or the forthcoming Rock Revolution, it will work with Guitar Hero World Tour.
Furthermore, Microsoft’s Gamerscore Blog announced yesterday that all the instruments for Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Revolution will be what they call “cross-compatible” on Xbox 360.
Sony announced yesterday that PlayStation 3 would feature full cross-compatibility among the three games as well.
The only question comes from Nintendo and Harmonix’s side of the ring, but since Guitar Hero controllers haven’t had issues with Rock Band (other than obvious console restrictions) we don’t see that being a problem.
The best part of all this news? Less fake instruments around your room.
