Unlike rival band simulator Rock Band, the DLC for the latest entry of Guitar Hero will only be compatible with that game.
The news follows an announcement that older DLC for the franchise can be upgraded for use in the new game at a fee, a cost currently unknown. The incompatibility with titles such as last year’s Guitar Hero World Tour is supposedly due to major advancements in the new game, such as vocal star power and advanced drumming sections.
Where Rock Band, and karaoke title SingStar have succeeded is the way they are more of a unified platform, rather than separate titles. Decisions like the one to make Guitar Hero 5 DLC incompatable may be a good way of milking more money out of consumers, but won’t make Activision any more popular in gamer’s eyes.
