Legendary Pictures has reportedly optioned the rights to a big-screen version of the Mass Effect franchise, a Hollywood Reporter blog post today revealed.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog, Legendary has already begun the process bring Commander Shepard to the screen ahead of other, less customizable Xbox characters like Master Chief or Marcus Fenix. Legendary has also reportedly hired screenwriter Mark Protosevich, whose credits include “The Cell,” “I Am Legend” and upcoming “Thor.”
Legendary has plenty of other video game fare in the works, with World of Warcraft and Gears of War flicks trying to get off the ground.
Whether this will happen or not is another matter – Hollywood is fickle. Halo had Niell “District 9″ Blomkamp and Peter “Lord of the Rings” Jackson attached to it at one point, just remember how far dreams can fall!
