The film adaptation of Capcom’s “Lost Planet” will not be based on the content or storyline of either game, G4 reported today.

Capcom’s Jun Takeuchi spoke to G4 at Gamescom. The film will probably not reference Lost Planet 2 at all, according to Takeuchi, who noted that “as the story line goes, the movie is completely different from the game.”

Takeuchi confirmed the involvement of Mega Man creator, Keiji Inafun, whose role in the production is still unknown. The estimated budget of “Lost Planet” is $200 million.

Video game movies that have nothing to do with their source material is pretty standard, so this comes as no surprise given the first game’s heavy emphasis on shooting the rear ends of insects and repeated bouts of amnesia, neither of which make for particularly engrossing cinema.
