The news that Bionic Commando Rearmed, Capcom’s 3D re-imagining of the 8-bit classic, is being released with an ESRB “M” rating isn’t exactly head-explodingly surprising. Still, news is news, and that’s what we’re here to deliver. Bionic Commando’s Senior Producer, Ben Judd, addressed the rating of BCR today in both the Top Secret Podcast and a blog post at the official Bionic Commando website. Ratings across the globe were unveiled, and despite Capcom’s worries about a decrease in sales, the team decided to stay true to the classic NES title to the bitter end. The bitter, gore-filled, beautifully gruesome end.
Interestingly enough, the ratings aren’t identical across all territories, with the ESRB in North America (and the Aussies) branding it with a big ol’ M for Mature rating and Europe seeing a similar 18+, while Germans 16 and older can enjoy the game. Surprisingly enough, however, is the B rating (12 and older) the Japanese version of the arm-slinging action game received.
Oh, that cultural diversity! Look forward to seeing the game in May, where you can pick it up for 10 bucks. Let’s hope the classic head-exploding finale pays off. That M rating better be worth it!
