Microsoft has recently announced a partnership with the Rock the Vote campaign to bring a collection of politically-centered features to the online gaming arena just before the final leg of the 2008 Presidential Campaign gets underway.
Some of the new features will allow users to register to vote (but not actually vote!), participate in forums and take part in presidential polls. Microsoft says the features will go live August 25, in line with the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colo.
Microsoft will also be promoting the Rock the Vote message at both conventions, but before you go and think Microsoft is doing this just to have an impact, think again.
The booths’ other aim is “educating delegates about creating a safer entertainment environment on Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE.” Specifically, the press release is referring to the Xbox 360’s “industry-leading” parental controls.
This is clearly aimed at showing lawmakers that not all video games need federal scrutiny, as anti-video game legislation seems to be one of the few issues lawmakers both sides of the aisle, for the most part, agree on.
