New 360 Dashboard to Hit in November

Posted on Mon, Aug 25, 2008 in News, Xbox 360

Microsoft has told RPG-TV that the Fall Xbox 360 Dashboard Update will be arriving on home consoles in November. Technically, it is still fall.

Announced at this year’s E3, the new update completely redefines the Xbox 360 experience by removing the ‘blades’ and creating a smoother, more visual interface. Microsoft hopes it will enable gamers to navigate without having to read text and make things easier for casual users.

No word yet on if your Mii’s will go into an obsessive stalking binge, drinking themselves to excess and showing up at your apartment drunk, naked and soaked by the pouring rain, begging you to take them back after you’ve left them to make avatars on your 360.

While you may not think the update is a big deal I think it will be disastrous. Do you really want your main interface completely changing? This usually happens when you purchase a new console, not in the middle of owning one. What if the new one is worse? More than likely what you have now works good enough for you. I would skip this update, but that most likely will not be an option.

I don’t necessarily think it’s a GOOD thing, and yes it will require some getting used to, but if it streamlines the media experience (currently I find downloading media on XBL a bit overly complicated) then I’m willing to give it a chance.

I see your point of view, it will be a massive difference, but I don’t think it’s going to kill the console and I certainly don’t think it’s going to hinder what it was built for - playing video games.
