After months of speculation, Electronic Arts announced ‘Mass Effect 2′ for the PC and Xbox 360, due out sometime in 2010. The game, like its predecessor, will be developed by BioWare.

In the second of a planned trilogy things will be a bit higher stakes for sentient life everywhere. With Saren’s evil army of Geth defeated, humans and its allied races are now faced with “an even greater peril.”

“We’re going to surpass the extraordinary gaming experience we brought our fans in ‘Mass Effect’,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, General Manager and CEO of BioWare and General Manager and Vice President of EA.

‘Mass Effect’ was already a phenomenal success for BioWare and EA, winning numerous players choice and Game of the Year awards. How could it get any better? “By delivering intensified combat and expanded weapon options as well as increased depth of planet exploration, all while delivering a powerful, emotionally engaging story,” Muzyka said.

Those who have not yet sampled the expansive and well thought out galaxy of RPG greatness that is ‘Mass Effect,’ should probably begin soon if they want to finish it by the time the seque arrives.
