Pressure Group Forms Over MP Modern Warfare 2 Remarks

Posted on Mon, Nov 9, 2009 in News

daily mailGamers are being asked to join a Facebook group aimed at giving them a say against unfair accusations made by critics about gaming.

The group plans to co-ordinate responses to media articles which many gamers claim give an unfair representation of their hobby.

MP Tom Watson set the group up after Labour MP Keith Vaz criticised Modern Warfare 2 for being too violent.

Mr Vaz’s complaints centred around one part where undercover soldiers pose as terrorists and are asked to shoot civilians. This issue was raised in Parliament the day before its release.

Activision defended the game saying that one section is not representative of the overall experience also adding that warning screens beforehand state that the scene may be upsetting.

Mr Watson created the group Gamers’ Voice asking gamers to join and ‘discuss how UK video gamers can find their voice in newspapers and government.’

Anyone who wants to give a voice to this one-sided debate and are annoyed by Daily Mail headlines such as Ban This Sick Filth should join the Gamers Voice group on facebook.
