Quantum of Solace: Gadgets, Girls, and a Stunning Daniel Craig Facial Model

Activision has stripped Electronic Arts of its license to… ahem… create games in the Bond universe. Steadfast fans occupied with Goldeneye nostalgia are hoping for the best with the new faces of Bond: quite literally Daniel Craig (in the first post-Brosnan game) and Treyarch, developers of Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty World at War. This time, the name’s Solace, Quantum of Solace, and shares a title and release date with the November 7th film.

The game uses the Call of Duty 4 engine and is being developed by four companies (according to the official site).  Treyarch will work on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions,  Eurocom on the PC version, Beenox on the Wii version, and Vicarious Visions is adapting the game to handheld form on the DS.

We’re hoping for the best, as Treyarch aims to fabricate an upstanding series entry that will breathe new life into the ailing Bond games — the same way that Casino Royale re-ignited the fading Bond spark in many movie-goers. We’re setting our sights on a traditional Bond formula: some sneaking, some gadgets, some cars, some women, some firefights, and some explosions (usually involving a bullet leaving one barrel and entering another barrel of a more flammable nature).

It has been more than a decade since bond first appeared in playable form with Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64, and 8 years since Electronic Arts released The World is Not Enough. Since then, the first person entries to the Bond franchise has unarguably been less-than-stellar — here’s hoping the new licensees can inject some fresh fuel into the Bond saga with Quantum of Solace and keep those barrels exploding.
