Resident Evil 5 in 2009, multiplayer?

Chris Kramer is Capcom’s Senior Director of Communications and Community, and after a lengthy and informative interview this Sunday, he divulged to Xbox Live Director of Programming Larry Hryb (better known as Major Nelson to the Xbox community) that Resident Evil 5 will be coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2009. There’s been a hefty amount of debate on the internet, and after the game’s recent showing at Capcom’s Las Vegas “Captivate ’08″ event, rumors began to fly more wildly than ever.

It’s now official, despite RE5 looking like a complete and polished shooter, is coming next year, as opposed to the often rumored holiday 2008 time-frame. If Capcom keeps up their current-gen tradition, we can probably expect to see the African-based shooter — which Kramer boldly claims “is going to be the GTA/Metal Gear… of 2009″ — in the early months of the year, similar to the February releases of Lost Planet and Devil May Cry 4.

With Capcom’s fiscal year ending in March, it looks even more likely that the title will see shelf life sooner than later.

As an added tidbit of info, when asked about RE5 incorporating Live, Kramer brushed off the question with a simple “Wait until E3″ reply. If recent trailers and screens are any indication, two-player co-op isn’t entirely out of the question for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers, but as of yet, there’s no confirmation of anything. He could be hinting at versus multiplayer or DLC for all we know.

As if Resident Evil couldn’t get any better, already.
