Sony likes money, wants to keep “pricing parity” for downloadable titles

A Sony spokesman said the company will to maintain “pricing-parity” on download titles for the PSP Go. This equates to charging an extra 5 dollars per title, breaking with the customary PSN Downloads being cheaper model.

SCEA’s Eric Lempel told Destructoid, “We have pricing parity right now, and it is part of our strategy.” Parity in the dictionary is referred to as,” the state or condition of being equal, esp. regarding status or pay.”

Sony’s accountants clearly have their “=” and “>” signs mixed up somewhere.

“We’d like to keep it that way, keep a level playing field,” Lempel said,  ”And again, there’s not that much more to say on that topic.”

The PSP Go costs $250. Digital downloads at true parity often do much worse than their equivalent in physical media, probably because people like owning things they pay money for.

If the PSP Go was an attempt to head of the iPhone/iPod Touch gaming offensive while it’s barely out of the games, it has a long way to go – many games for the Apple “handhelds” are less than $10. Some are free.
