Final Fantasy I and II will premiere on the iPhone and iPod touch, according to Square Enix’s Facebook page today.
No other details, including price or a release window were provided in the announcement, but a few screens were posted on the page.
The timeless “Fight, Magic, Defend, Item, Run” command menu has been replaced with a more efficient, illustrated touch menu and graphics appear crisp and modern.
It’s a little surprising that such an announcement of such profound importance would be left to Facebook. (What, no Twitter?) The page says “Release date:TBA. / Stay tuned!” Only 93 people like the announcement, meaning it’s gone largely unnoticed.
Screens after the break.
We’d hazard a guess that these particular games will only work on the 3G S or 3rd generation 32/64 GB touches, given the space and processor requirements such a game would entail.
Or maybe they may be a sign of something bigger from Apple?

Amazing. It’s so strange to see the iPhone getting ports that normally live on the DS/PSP. Combined withthee Genesis emulator that Sega announced, and other blockbuster names coming to the phone. Sony/Nintendo need to step up and release something new.
They have to take some of this heat away from Apple. The App Store makes getting games too easy.
