Starcraft II delayed until 2010

Activision-Blizzard made a statement today that Starcraft II, the sequel to one of the most popular (if not the most popular) real-time strategy games of all time will be delayed until at least the first half of 2010.

The revelation came in a statement highlighting the company’s stronger than expected quarter-2 financial results.

Activision-Blizzard said the delay would allow for some extra development time for the new version of the online service, Battle.net, through which online games of Starcraft are played.  The the statement indicated that the company aims to launch both products simultaneously.

The press released, issued today, also stated it will take the extra time to “polish and refine” StarCraft II.

Blizzard has traditionally been a company that declines to give release dates, though “the end of 2009″ was stated earlier this year. In May, Blizzard president Mike Morhaime said “we won’t release it until it meets our standards and the expectations of our players.”

“Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game,” said Activision-Blizzard in the statement.

The news comes as a disappointment to gamers, investors and the entire nation of South Korea.

I don’t think starcraft 2 is ever going to be released. They keep pushing back the release date.
