BioShock 2 was confirmed to be in development by a press release on the website of Take-Two Interactive. The sequel will not be developed by Ken Levine at 2K Boston, but rather tackled by 2K Marin. Ken Levine will somehow be included in the project. No gameplay details were given, however; the game has a ship date sometime in the fourth quarter of 2009.

Also worth noting from the press release, Take-Two has also acquired Illusion Softworks, the creator of Mafia; they are currently working on Mafia 2 under the name 2K Czech. In response to Take-Two’s recent financial and creative fortitude, Chairman Strauss Zelnick stated,

“We are pleased with Take-Two’s stronger than expected top and bottom line results for the first quarter. Our performance benefited from a diverse range of hit titles in the first quarter, and we are eagerly awaiting the release of Grand Theft Auto IV in the second quarter. We believe that our extraordinary creative assets and improving operational efficiency will be sources of significant value for shareholders as the interactive entertainment industry moves further into the current growth cycle.”

The future is looking promising for this powerhouse software company.
