With the Internet abuzz for Naughty Dog’s upcoming PS3 exclusive Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, pre-orders for the action-adventure game have shot it to the top of Amazon.com’s video game sales charts. The game is still to hit the shops, but after the positive reviews and successful open beta of the multiplayer modes, it seems gamers are already willing to part with their pennies.
Uncharted 2’s online multiplayer beta ends today, and in just under 2 weeks players have racked up approximately 30 years of game time between them. Yes, that’s years! Impressive numbers indeed, but not quite as impressive as the number of rapturously praising reviews that have emerged over the last couple of weeks. Review aggregator Metacritic currently places Uncharted 2 as the second-most critically acclaimed title of this console generation, one point behind Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 4 and equal with Nintendo’s Super Mario Galaxy. Despite reviews being inherently subjective things, many gamers still use the site as a definitive final score of a game’s quality, and the excellent reception that it has received has no doubt driven the huge number of pre-orders.
As Naughty Dog have been naughty and neglected to send us a review copy, you can expect our review post-release, where we will be able to pass judgement on (among other things) the full online multiplayer options.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is scheduled for release on October 13th in North America, and October 16th in the European territories.
