The 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV has gained enough reviews (20) so that it can be added to the Gameranking’s list of best rated games. Overtaking Ocarina of Time with a massive 98.8% after 20 reviews bodes well for the latest entry in the best open world series in gaming. It may even stay at the top.
Mario Galaxy performed the same feat at the end of 2007, but lower review scores dropped it down to 2nd, or as it stands today 3rd place. Will Grand Theft Auto IV stay at the top? What about the near 100% rated PlayStation 3 version? At 13 reviews, will it top the Xbox 360 version? Only time will tell.
UPDATE: Now that Grand Theft Auto IV has been on store shelves for 5 days, the reviews have kept coming in, and the thing that no-one expected to happen has. Grand Theft Auto IV is still the highest rated game of all time, but not on Xbox 360. Instead, the PlayStation 3 version finally has enough reviews to allow it onto the list with a mindblowing 99.6% average.
Reviewers have awarded the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions 100% and a handful of 90%s. Given that the Xbox version has achieved that rating with over 40 reviews, and that no-one has given the Playstation version less than a 98, it looks to remain as the best reviewed game ever for a long time to come - on either platform.
