Valkyria Chronicles 2 Announced

The original Valkyria Chronicles was a very unique game. It’s turn-based 3rd person style won it many awards in the categories of role-playing and strategy. Unfortunately this didn’t result in a huge amount of sales in the west. 33,00 copies in the entire month of November of 2008 to be exact.

On the other hand it did sell in Japan, with more than double that amount in its first week a lone. So it comes as no surprise that the sequel, “VC2: The Gallian Royal Academy“, will be released on Sony’s top selling piece of hardware in Japan, the PSP.

The story accompanying the action from the first game involves an enemy from within, The Gallian Revolutionary Army, who are gunning for the Darcsen population of Southern Gallia. Despite being set two years after Welkin Gunther’s heroics in the first game, race discrimination is still at large. The new protagonist, Avan Hardence, will have to defend the Darcsens long after The Empire has left.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 will feature a lot of time spent at Gallia’s National Military Academy. In what seems to be a nod to Atlus’ best selling Shin Megami Tensei game, Persona 4, you may find yourself doing a lot of socialising with your fellow recruits. It’s a great move that fills a gap that the original Valkyria Chronicles suffered from, the lack of activities when not out on the field of battle. The combination of two of 2008′s stand-out titles holds unlimited potential.

It seems Sega has learnt its lessons as far as making money is concerned with the VC series, while some doubted a sequel, it’s clear that it could become a big name for them in the coming years.
