The family friendly folks over at WhatTheyPlay released a great gaming related story aimed to detail the ins and outs of Grand Theft Auto IV for parents. A robust list of “11 things parents should know” neither encourages or discourages the purchasing of the game for children, but takes a neutral stance analyzing the violence, language, and why the game is fun.

Mentions of “Tw@” clubs and drunk driving are included in the lengthy, info-heavy must-read for parents. It gives a clear idea of why GTA isn’t necessarily for their children, but it also explains the online multiplayer aspects and limited edition. Parents and gamers of all ages should give the article a glance, since it’s something that we’ll be seeing a lot more of.

Unfortunately, this won’t stop parents from purchasing, then complaining about the game.

Thanks for introducing me to the What They Play site. I am already knowledgeable enough when it comes to video games to know what to pick for my kids, but this site looks user-friendly enough to pass on to some other parents who are a bit clueless. Every little bit helps when you are a parent!

What They Play is helmed by John Davison, formerly one of the head-honchos at 1up.com. He knows his stuff, and is a really intellectual cat.

Also, there are a couple folks working under him that you can trust. They’re awesome, and so is their site. I’m only 20, and I’m single, but I still find the whole thing fascinating.
