South Peak Games and TopWare Interactive have come together in hopes of releasing what might be the most badass game ever created in late 2008 with X-Blades, a third-person fantasy hack-’n'-slasher. The teams plan on “redefining” the genre with a Devil May Cry-like combination of guns, magic, and pounding the ever living snot out of a variety of fugly baddies with swords.

Ayumi, the game’s voluptuous blond heroine, will utilize the four elements to perform 20 different magic attacks against even more opponents in a gorgeously rendered, anime-inspired world. Like Mark of Kri took a page from the Disney catalog for its great art, X-Blades is heavily inspired by all things anime with a dash of its own unique fantasy/sci-fi stylings.

While we don’t have any idea how the sword fighting action game will actually play, the very idea of a stylish swords-and-guns combat game is enough to titillate us. Gruesome action + acrobatics + scantily clad chick  - totally lame secondary character who’s bringin’ down her style = a winning formula in my book, anyway. On a less interesting note, there are two morality based endings, which hasn’t really been executed well, you know, ever.

We’ll keep you posted as details for the game slip out closer to its late 08 release. We’re anxious to see some combat and more outrageously beautiful worlds… And perhaps a little bit of clothing on the main character. Sure, bikini tops and strap-bottoms are hot, but wowza.

Check out our gallery of images below, and the game’s site for some totally bitchin’ metal theme-music.
