Xbox Originals Known Issues and Online Manuals

fable.jpgNo one’s perfect. Not even Halo. Nor is Psychonauts. If you’ve been following the recent news you’ll no doubt know all about the recent information release about Xbox Originals, Microsoft’s Download-Old-Ass-Xbox-Games service that launches December 4. Trixie posted in the official forums today linking to the Xbox Originals web-page where we uncovered a few neat little details. First off, Microsoft has the manuals (eg: Halo - Duke and all!) up on the site in full in .pdf form. Badass.

On a less cool note, the games have some issues since they’re being emulated. Fable, for example, won’t let you watch the trailers that were on the original disc without totally crashing. Right on. If you begin to mess around with your hero/villains’ tattoos you’ll experience slowdown and texture problems. While this is incredibly unfortunate for those of us looking to play a solid frame-rate session of Halo: Combat Evolved, it’s great to see MS acknowledging and documenting the problems with the games. If you want more details hit up the official page link below or read more for full details with known problems with the games that are launching with the Originals downloads.

You’ve got to wonder how long they’ll keep telling us how broken some of these games are since that could easily deter sales, or if they’ll add non-backwards compatible titles to the list.

Known Issues:

Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge: There is some minor flickering at the top of the screen that happens very rarely. The “Press A to Continue” message is missing when the host player leaves a multiplayer game. Additional content within the game (such as demos & trailers) are not supported and selecting those options may result in crashing the game (requiring a restart of the console)

Fable: There are some random bursts of audio static and some minor texture issues and a short hang up when removing tattoos. Additional content within the game (such as demos & trailers) are not supported and selecting those options may result in crashing the game (requiring a restart of the console)

Fuzion Frenzy: There are some minor frame rate issues. Additional content within the game (such as demos & trailers) are not supported and selecting those options may result in crashing the game (requiring a restart of the console)

Halo: There are some very mild frame rate drops.

Psychonauts: HDMI 720p is not supported for PAL users. Running the game in 720p over HDMI will result in the game locking up for PAL users. If you are using HDMI output, set the resolution to 1080i or 1080p (anything but 720p)
