I was given the chance to checkout the portable version of what is probably my favorite flash game of all time; N. N first splashed onto the scene as a web based flash game. The tale of the little Ninja that could quickly ripped through the internet achieving true viral status. Now the game is coming out for the PSP and DS as N+ from developer MetaNet, and is being published by Atari.
If you’ve never played N before the idea is simple. Get your little Ninja to end the of the level before the time is up. You are a Ninja but your life is severely time limited, to the tune of about 90 seconds. You can grab the gold strewn throughout the level to increase that time limit though. As you progress in the game new traps and enemies are found, all that try to make your short life even shorter.

When developer Metanet first announced that they were planning on bringing N to current gen consoles and portables I was worried that the crazy jumps and physics based action of the original wouldn’t make it through OK; turns out that my worries were for naught. N+ on the PSP stays true to the original, while adding additional features to make the game feel fresh.
On the PSP you’ll be jumping, sliding and bouncing through 200 new levels with 150 more being found in the VS. and Co-Op levels. If that isn’t enough action for you, simply hop onto the N server to download more level packs through your network connection. This will make damn sure that even the most elite of Ninjas can get their fix.
I played through the bulk of the single player game and have to say that this will be a day one purchase for me. As I’ve said, I’ve been a huge fan of this game, and having the ability to bring it with me wherever I go will be huge. N+ is such a quick pick up and play game that it makes the perfect portable title. Some may call the hyper stylized graphics simple, but they allow for multiple levels to be loaded at once making the transition from one level to another very short.

Also included in the final retail version will be a level editor that will allow you to trade levels with your friends through AdHoc networking or online, and a full multi-player mode to see who the true Ninja really is.
N+ for the PSP is shaping up to be a solid title for all of you Ninjas in training. You can have your go at a world full of gold when the title hits the PSP on August 12th, 2008.

The character looks like it could use some anti-aliasing but it looks promising overall. The level sharing aspect sounds like it could really help extend the longevity of this game.
