There’s something you need to know about Baja: Edge of Control. Before considering purchase, you need to know that it is wickedly tough to get the hang of, and that this game will absolutely kick your ass as you swoop and spin across the hilly, winding desert tracks.
But that’s just the catch. Almost everything else we were privy to on the PAX 08 show-floor demo was awesome. The controls are bang on and allow maximum control as your vehicle flies across bumpy tracks at huge speeds, but again, Baja is tough. In spite of that, the game is a solid racer that gives players a hell of an experience once they get a grip on the realistic drifting, spinning and bouncing about.
That realism translates in to vehicle customization, and we were told that failing to take care of your buggy, truck or Volkswagen Beetle (!) could potentially launch purchased parts from their snug spot under the hood. This means that racing carefully but quickly is an essential tactic, and taking it easy off of the mountainous desert-ramps and avoiding collisions is recommended.
Baja: Edge of Control is due out in the middle of this month, and Nukoda will have a review of the fast and fun racer as soon as possible.
