Video Game Hero, Reviewed [DS Homebrew]

Video Game Hero is a gem of a homebrew game. Created by Sumiguchi and Spriteattack, the game is a homebrew version of guitar hero.  What makes this game stand out is the great selection of old school songs that take you back to video games of yesteryear.  For example it has hits from the Castlevainia series, Monkey Island, Donkey Kong and much more.

The game sports over 60 songs to play through over four difficulties and several different game modes.  The game has a two player challenge mode where you are competing against a friend using a single DS.  It even had a mode where you play with the lid closed.  Overall there is plenty to do and has great replayability.

If you a familiar with rhythm based game you can jump into any game mode and feel at home.  Myself, I started on hard mode and found that airing on the easy side.  Only on expert difficulty level will most gamer find a challenge.  Which left this reviewer with a little dissatisfaction.  Yet that is made up by just getting to play a lot of great classic songs.

Another great aspect of the game is how you can control it.  You can use the d-pad, the touch screen or the official Guitar Hero: On Tour DS controller.  So while you wait for the next installment of the DS Guitar Hero you can still rock out in style with Video Game Hero.

If you are able to play homebrew games on your DS this is a must have game.  Great music, solid gameplay and a small storage footprint and you have a great rhythm game in your pocket.
